Pakistan, a populous and culturally diverse nation in South Asia, is home to a predominantly Indo-Iranian speaking population and an overwhelmingly Muslim majority. Formed during the 1947 partition of British India, Pakistan’s independence is celebrated annually on August 14. Islamabad, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, serves as the capital, while Karachi remains the country’s largest economic hub along the Arabian Sea. Pakistan features remarkable geographic diversity—from the towering peaks of the Karakoram and Himalayan ranges, including K2, to the fertile plains of the Indus River, one of the cradles of ancient civilization such as Mohenjo-daro. The national flag symbolizes Islamic values, and the official national anthem, “Qaumi Taranah,” represents national unity and pride. Despite facing political and economic challenges throughout its history, Pakistan continues to hold major geopolitical importance in the South Asian region.
