Indonesia
a, an extensive archipelagic country in Southeast Asia, is the world’s fourth most populous nation and the largest in Southeast Asia. It consists of about 17,500 islands, including major groups such as Sumatra, Java, Borneo (Kalimantan), Sulawesi (Celebes), the Lesser Sunda Islands, the Moluccas, and western New Guinea (Papua). Jakarta, located on the northwestern coast of Java, serves as the capital. Indonesia’s history includes Dutch colonial rule, Japanese occupation during World War II, and independence declared in 1945, officially recognized in 1949. The country is known for its volcanic mountains, tropical forests, coral reefs, and rich biodiversity, while also lying along major tectonic plate boundaries, making it highly seismically active. Indonesia is a multiparty republic with a president as head of state and government, and it plays an active role in international organizations such as ASEAN and the UN. The national flag is red and white, and the national anthem, “Indonesia Raya”, symbolizes national unity and pride.
