Sudan is a vast country in northeastern Africa, shaped by the flow of the Nile River and centuries of interaction between African and Arab civilizations. Khartoum, the capital, lies at the confluence of the Blue and White Nile and serves as the political and commercial hub of the country. Sudan’s modern history has been marked by colonial rule, independence in 1956, prolonged civil wars, and the secession of South Sudan in 2011. Rich in natural and cultural diversity, the country spans deserts, savannas, and fertile river plains, supporting agriculture and pastoral livelihoods. Ongoing political instability and armed conflict, particularly since 2023, have severely affected governance, economic activity, and humanitarian conditions. Despite these challenges, Sudan remains strategically important in Africa due to its geography, resources, and historical role as a crossroads between regions. The national flag features red, white, and black horizontal bands with a green triangle, reflecting Arab unity and national identity.
