Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will make his first official bilateral visit to Germany, highlighting renewed momentum in Ankara-Berlin relations. Scheduled for late 2025, the visit aims to deepen cooperation across trade, defense, regional security, and EU affairs, while also addressing humanitarian and geopolitical challenges.
Fidan will meet German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul, along with business leaders and civil society representatives. The agenda includes boosting Türkiye-Germany economic ties, with bilateral trade targeted at $60 billion, and collaboration in energy, transportation, artificial intelligence, and digitalization. Officials hope this will foster innovation and strengthen both nations’ economic competitiveness in Europe and globally.
In defense, Fidan and German counterparts are expected to discuss NATO-aligned projects, including Eurofighter procurement and broader security cooperation. This reflects Türkiye’s commitment to regional stability and NATO obligations, while deepening strategic ties with Germany.
EU relations will be another focus. Fidan is set to advocate for Customs Union modernization, seeking stronger integration in European economic and security frameworks. The discussion may also touch upon Türkiye’s evolving role in EU policy-making and security initiatives.
Regional security and humanitarian concerns are central to the visit. Fidan will discuss maintaining the Gaza ceasefire, delivering humanitarian aid, and ensuring Syria’s territorial integrity. Coordination on counterterrorism and discussions on lifting sanctions in Syria are expected to reinforce Türkiye’s engagement in Middle Eastern security.
The Turkish diaspora in Germany will also be a priority, reflecting Ankara’s commitment to its citizens abroad and strengthening cultural and economic ties. Analysts view this visit as a signal of accelerated Ankara-Berlin dialogue and long-term partnership across diplomacy, commerce, and civil society.
Historically, Germany has been Türkiye’s largest European trade partner. Direct investments in 2024 totaled $771 million, highlighting the significance of the bilateral relationship. Fidan’s visit underscores the importance of strategic cooperation, economic development, and regional stability, reinforcing a robust partnership with lasting benefits for both nations.
