President Tebboune Andrei Pavlenko Meeting: A Tribute to Humanitarian Service

During Tuesday’s official audience at the Presidential Palace, President Tebboune personally thanked Andrei Pavlenko for his extraordinary service in the aftermath of Algeria’s liberation. Pavlenko, a Russian demining specialist, trained hundreds of Algerian engineers and soldiers in the delicate process of removing millions of explosive devices buried along the nation’s borders during colonial rule.

Out of approximately 11 million landmines that once threatened lives and halted development, 9 million were successfully neutralized through coordinated operations. Pavlenko’s expertise, courage, and leadership helped Algeria rebuild its rural communities and restore agricultural lands devastated by the war.

Algeria and Russia: Deepening Partnership Beyond Demining

President Tebboune emphasized that the President Tebboune Andrei Pavlenko meeting reflects the broader strength of bilateral ties between Algeria and Russia, extending from defense and technology to humanitarian aid and cultural exchange. Pavlenko, who had previously been decorated with the National Order of Merit in 2023, also received recognition in 2024 from Army General Saïd Chanegriha for his long-standing contribution to peace and national security.

The meeting was attended by senior government and military officials, underscoring Algeria’s respect for international allies who supported the country’s independence and reconstruction journey.

Legacy of Courage and Cooperation

Officials noted that Pavlenko’s humanitarian legacy continues to inspire new generations of engineers, deminers, and peacekeepers. His example represents the enduring spirit of solidarity between Algeria and Russia — one rooted in mutual respect, shared history, and a common vision for global peace.

The audience also highlighted Algeria’s continued engagement in international peacekeeping and post-conflict reconstruction efforts, showing that the lessons of Pavlenko’s generation remain deeply relevant today.
