Jakarta, October 25, 2025 — Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) have entered into a landmark cooperation to advance statistical systems, research, and education, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to development driven by reliable data.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during Lula’s official visit to Jakarta.
BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said the collaboration embodies the shared vision of Indonesia and Brazil to promote data-driven governance and innovation. “This cooperation not only strengthens ties between BPS and IBGE but also symbolizes our shared commitment to shaping a future grounded in data and science,” she stated.
Under the agreement, both agencies will cooperate in developing statistical methodologies, conducting joint research, and establishing double-degree programs to improve statistical education. The MoU also includes initiatives for capacity-building and the adoption of emerging technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence, and geospatial systems.
Widyasanti emphasized that the initiative aligns with the 2023–2026 Revitalized Plan of Action under the Indonesia–Brazil Strategic Partnership, calling it a concrete step toward global collaboration in statistics.
The partnership is expected to foster faster, more accurate, and policy-relevant data production while addressing common challenges both nations face in managing vast and diverse populations.
