Bahrain News: Featured Insight

Bahrain is a small island nation in the southwestern Persian Gulf, comprising Bahrain Island and about 30 smaller islands. Its capital, Manama, is a modern financial and commercial hub, blending cosmopolitan life with traditional Arab culture. Historically an entrepôt and the site of the ancient Dilmun civilization, Bahrain has been ruled by the Khalīfah dynasty since the late 18th century. The country’s flat, arid landscape is punctuated by fertile northern plains irrigated from artesian wells, while oil and natural gas have fueled economic growth alongside banking, tourism, and light manufacturing. Arabic is the official language, Islam is the predominant religion, and expatriates from Iran, India, Pakistan, and other countries form nearly half the population. Bahrain’s maroon-and-white flag symbolizes its heritage and unity.
