The Algiers International Book Fair 2025 (SILA) is set to open on October 29 under the theme “The Book, a Crossroads of Cultures.” The fair will bring together 1,254 publishing houses from 49 countries, celebrating literature, history, and cross-cultural dialogue. This edition is poised to be the largest book fair in Africa and the Arab world.

Largest Gathering of Publishers in Africa and the Arab World
According to Commissioner Mohamed Iguerb, the 2025 fair, held under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, will include 290 Algerian publishing houses alongside international participants. Mauritania has been named the guest of honour, symbolizing the strong cultural and historical ties between Algeria and its regional partner.
Key Events and Intellectual Programs
Spanning 23,000 square meters, SILA 2025 will host around 250 writers and intellectuals and feature over 55 events, including:
- Debates on artificial intelligence and creativity
- Poetry sessions and storytelling events
- Panels on global freedom movements, Palestine, and Western Sahara
- Commemorations marking the centenary of Frantz Fanon’s birth
The fair will also pay tribute to notable Algerian authors such as Rachid Boudjedra and Abdelhamid Benhadouga, highlighting Algeria’s rich literary legacy.
Highlight: Algeria in Civilization Symposium
A special symposium, “Algeria in Civilization,” scheduled for November 4, will celebrate Algeria’s cultural and intellectual contributions, emphasizing the country’s enduring influence on global literature and arts.
The 28th edition of SILA continues to position Algeria as a major cultural hub in Africa, fostering cross-cultural understanding and promoting literary exchange on an international scale.
