Summary
Speaking before the UN Security Council, Algeria’s Ambassador Amar Benjama condemned Israel’s proposed annexation of the West Bank and urged urgent international efforts to rebuild war-torn Gaza, calling the devastation there “beyond imagination.”

At a UN Security Council session in New York, Algeria’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Amar Benjama, cautioned against escalating developments in the occupied West Bank. He denounced an Israeli bill advancing annexation, describing it as proof of “the colonial nature of the occupation.”
Ambassador Benjama stressed that Algeria “strongly condemns these actions” and urged the Security Council to uphold its responsibility in safeguarding the two-state solution — the only just and viable path toward peace, he said.
Turning to Gaza, Benjama highlighted the “unimaginable destruction” and immense human toll resulting from the conflict. He called on the international community to treat Gaza’s reconstruction as “a collective mission” rooted in solidarity and justice, emphasizing the indispensable role of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in delivering humanitarian aid without obstruction.
Despite the devastation, the Algerian envoy noted a “glimmer of hope” for Palestinians striving toward dignity, justice, and statehood. He reiterated Algeria’s call for a renewed peace process and global mobilization to rebuild not only Gaza’s infrastructure but also hope for a lasting and fair peace.
