Algeria pharmaceutical standards are under renewed scrutiny as national health authorities call for stricter compliance with international norms to safeguard patient welfare and improve medicine quality.
At a national forum hosted by the Regional Pharmacists’ Association in Algiers, leading experts and regulators urged the country’s pharmaceutical industry to prioritize quality assurance as a pillar of Algeria’s public health system.
Aligning Algeria Pharmaceutical Standards with Global Best Practices
Prof. Kamel Sanhadji, President of the National Health Safety Agency, emphasized that Algeria must build a lasting culture of quality within its pharmaceutical sector. He advocated closer alignment with international standards, including ISO frameworks, to improve drug safety and strengthen public confidence.
Sanhadji noted that consistent monitoring, transparent reporting, and industry accountability are vital to protecting citizens and supporting the nation’s long-term health strategy.
Regulatory Reform and Institutional Oversight
Prof. Elhadia Mansouri, representing the Ministry of Health, reaffirmed that pharmaceutical quality is now central to national health security. She explained that strengthening Algeria’s pharmaceutical standards will not only ensure patient safety but also enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery nationwide.
Meanwhile, Dr. Imène Belabbas from the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry said ongoing reforms aim to modernize Algeria’s regulatory framework. Key goals include clearer industry guidelines, improved factory inspections, and better technical support for domestic producers.
Supporting Growth Through Quality and Innovation
Officials agreed that tighter Algeria pharmaceutical standards should not hinder industrial growth. Instead, they argued that higher quality benchmarks can attract investment, facilitate export expansion, and improve access to reliable medicines.
The Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry is also promoting partnerships with international regulatory bodies to share expertise in drug evaluation, risk management, and clinical research. Such initiatives are expected to help Algerian companies achieve Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification and compete more effectively in foreign markets.
