Germany has officially won the bid to host the UEFA Women’s Euro 2029, beating rival bids including the joint Denmark-Sweden proposal. This milestone highlights Germany women’s football’s growing prominence in organizing major international tournaments.
UEFA Executive Committee Decision
During the UEFA Executive Committee meeting, Germany secured 15 votes, comfortably surpassing the ten required to win. Denmark and Sweden’s joint bid received only two votes, while Poland’s bid attracted no support. Portugal withdrew from the race in mid-November.
Germany Strengthens Its Women’s Football Profile
The UEFA Women’s Euro, held every four years since 1984, is Europe’s premier competition for female footballers. Hosting the 2029 edition cements Germany’s reputation in women’s football as a leader in event organization and infrastructure.
Poland’s Efforts and Growing Influence
Although Poland did not win the bid, its national team, led by Barcelona striker Ewa Pajor, made a strong impression by qualifying for the tournament for the first time and winning their final group match against Denmark. Poland has also hosted the UEFA Women’s U-19 Championship and is preparing to host the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, with Warsaw hosting the final of the 2027 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
