MOSCOW — The Putin Burevestnik missile test has been confirmed as a success, marking a major leap in Russia’s nuclear weapons program. President Vladimir Putin announced that the Burevestnik, a nuclear-powered intercontinental cruise missile with unlimited range, was successfully launched, reinforcing Moscow’s military capabilities amid tensions over Ukraine.
Putin Burevestnik Missile Test Demonstrates Global Range
According to Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, the Burevestnik missile flew about 14,000 kilometers over 15 hours, proving both its precision and endurance.
“The technical characteristics of the Burevestnik allow it to strike highly protected targets at any distance,” Gerasimov said.
Putin hailed the Burevestnik missile test as a “truly unique” achievement and ordered the construction of new infrastructure to prepare the weapon for operational use.
Burevestnik Missile: A Nuclear-Powered Weapon With No Equivalent
Known to NATO as the SSC-X-9 Skyfall, the Burevestnik missile has been in development since 2018. It is nuclear-powered, enabling it to evade modern air-defense systems and strike targets anywhere on Earth.
The project was previously linked to a 2019 test failure in the Arctic, which resulted in fatalities and radiation concerns. The recent successful Putin Burevestnik missile test signals that Russia has overcome those challenges.
Putin Burevestnik Missile Test Comes Amid Ukraine War
The timing of the Putin Burevestnik missile test coincides with Russia’s slow advances in Ukraine and a lack of progress in peace negotiations. U.S. President Donald Trump’s mediation efforts have yet to yield results, while Washington imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil firms in response to continued military operations.
Putin dismissed the idea of a set deadline for ending the war, saying Russia’s actions are guided by “military rationality” rather than external pressure.
